023 David: Into the Valley of the Shadow of Death, part 2

When David arrives in the Valley of Elah, he has the Spirit of the Lord covering and indwelling him...and his oldest brother despises him for it. As David prepares to go before the king and offer to challenge Goliath, he must first deal with a family dynamic as old as humanity itself.

022 David: Into the Valley of the Shadow of Death, part 1

David's anointing to be the future king ignited a series of events that would require him to be fiercely dependent on his mighty God. He embraced the challenge of his destiny and stared evil in the face.

021 David: Out of the Sheep Fields

On the next series of episodes I will be teaching a lengthy study of the life and times of King David. We will focus on historical and theological context, and will approach the Scriptures with open eyes, open hearts, and open minds ready to learn and receive what God  revealed in David's life. This is a study designed for the average guy and delivered in plain-spoken language, but will have the goal of bringing out the depth and richness of the Biblical text on its own terms, with bare knuckle-brawling realism, and not the whitewash we usually apply to it.

020 Reaching Men & Navigating Conflict | Matt Chandler

Matt Chandler is the lead pastor of the Village Church in Texas, and today I sat down with him to talk life in the ministry, how to reach men, and working through conflict.

019 How to get published, and how not to, with Bethany House editor Dave Long

Continuing the theme from last time of looking at the writing and publishing process, I sat down with David Long, Acquisitions Editor at Bethany House Publishers, and talked about the process of getting a manuscript published with a traditions publishing house. This is a great episode to share with an aspiring author interested in trying to make a career out of writing, but I also found it interesting to hear how David works and functions on the common ground we all have, by viewing his calling as good battle.

018 Gut Check with Zachary Bartels & Ted Kluck

Today I sat down with Zachary Bartels and Ted Kluck, two authors who have become friends of mine and host what I vote is the funniest podcast on the internet, “The Gut Check Podcast.” We talk about the craft of writing for those of you who are interested in hearing about the process from published authors, what it means to be a man, the importance of humor, and everything in between.

017 The Pastor as Warrior with JR Vassar

JR Vassar is the pastor of Church at the Cross in Texas and the author of the book "Glory Hunger." In this episode we talk about good battle in ministry and life, and how a man's pursuit of glory is actually his hunger for God.

016 The Godfather and men's ministry with Josh Patterson

Today I discuss good battle with Josh Patterson. Josh is the lead pastor for Ministry Leadership at the Village Church in Flower Mound, Texas and the co-author of the book "Creature of the Word" with Matt Chandler and Eric Geiger. I got to know him recently because Matt passed my novel "Day of War" around to their staff and we were able to connect on a mutual love for the story of King David. The Village Church has a special place in my heart, even though I have never been a member there. In this episode I chat with Josh about their lack of an official "men's ministry" despite having an active population of men who are deeply involved in serving, the ways they reach men, ministry battles, lessons learned, and life as a ministry family.

015 Cave Time & Good Battle | Jeff Voth

Jeff Voth is the founder of a ministry we have partnered with many times known as "Cavetime." As I have in my own work, he has focused on the life of David as a launching point for many life lessons and is one of the most knowledgeable men I have met on the subject. He is a robust and full-speed-ahead kind of guy, and I think you will love getting to know him.

012 Army Ranger Life Lessons | Andrew Potter

Today I sat down with Andrew Potter, a buddy of mine who has spent the past few years as an Army Ranger officer. 008 Filmmakers Jason Pamer & Eric Esau tackling man's biggest problem

So...what can we actually do about it?

That’s the most frequently asked and most poorly answered question in the entire conversation on sexual exploitation.

In the summer of 2010, our team returned from a preliminary filming trip. Like most people who return from the front lines of injustice, we battled intense discouragement and frustration because of the sheer enormity of the problem we saw…to the extent that we considered throwing in the towel and parting ways.

But we saw that men were largely absent from the fight on sexual exploitation - so how could a group of us walk away? We decided to dig our heels in and stay. We slowed down, listened and researched how to best engage the men fueling the demand, because in this battle, when you get the men, you get everyone.

Our heartbeat is to see the hearts of men changed - and we want that change to result in a systemic shift in the landscape of sexual exploitation. Join the groundswell of men committed to killing sexual exploitation at its root.

007 For King & Country | Joel Smallbone

Soaring melodies, driving rhythms, theatrical instrumentation and personal themes are the heartbeat of for KING & COUNTRY’s sophomore album, RUN WILD. LIVE FREE. LOVE STRONG. The duo, comprised of Australian brothers Joel and Luke, has accomplished several notable feats on their new record. Perhaps the most remarkable is that the award-winning rock/pop duo has achieved the unexpected.

003 Give Me This Mountain | Loren Cunningham

Cliff sits down with modern day hero of the faith, co-founder of Youth With A Mission Loren Cunningham.

Loren Cunningham’s life has been devoted to sharing the Gospel to every nation. He travels continually to 30-40 countries each year, and he has visited every country on earth.

It all started when Loren was a 20-year-old Bible college student. He was in the Bahamas on a singing tour. As Loren spent time in prayer, he was leaning back in his bed when he got a “mental movie.” He “saw” waves on a map. These waves then turned into young people going into every continent and sharing the Gospel. Four years later, in 1960, he started Youth With A Mission (YWAM).

In almost 50 years, YWAM has become one of the largest Christian mission organizations in the world. Loren believes that every Christian is a missionary and that there needs to be a “deregulation” of missions. He believes we need to change the way we view and conduct missions. Missions can be done anywhere one is, especially in the marketplace.

Loren and Cliff also chat about the challenges and blessings of age, and how people have to create a "mountain list" instead of a "bucket list."

002 Hollywood stuntman | Adrian Hein

Cliff talks Good Battle with Day of War Stuntman Adrian Hein who has been in movies over 50 movies, including "300," "Fantastic 4," "Olympus Has Fallen," "Godzilla," "X-Men," "The Jungle Book" and more.

Besides David's many documentary credits, he has directed seven movies -

BEYOND PARADISE (Independent), TO END ALL WARS (Goldcrest/Fox), LITTLE HOUSE (ABC - Wonderful World of Disney), THE PATH TO 9/11 (ABC/Disney), AFTER...(First Look), THE SEEKER (Fox/Walden), and most recently HAKANI (SBT).

Take a peek behind the scenes to see where we are at in the movie making process on Day of War.  Thanks for joining the Good Battle Podcast.

000 What is Good Battle?

What does “Good Battle” look like in the modern age? Cliff sits down with people advancing the kingdom of God in brave and audacious ways.

Every man, no matter his past or his occupation, is expected to threaten the Enemy with his life. There are no longer Philistines or Amalekites to battle, but there is still a spiritual Enemy who seeks to steal, kill and destroy. Men are designed to make war on this Enemy in the power of a Holy God. In this podcast, Cliff sits down with people waging “Good Battle” to advance the kingdom of God through compassion, love, and righteous ferocity, and discusses a wide range of topics with the audience. "Good Battle" Podcast will be releasing later this week.
